Cherri and I both agreed we didn’t want to have a big, weepy goodbye scene. So, we simply hugged after our coffee/tea date, promised to keep in touch, and spoke a few more times on the phone just before she left town. Once she did, it seemed like a permanent winter chill had settled into my bones. Because for the first time in my life, I felt truly alone.
